We have yet another contender who is center of a great story. Until the EFA and its Members started researching this line, little had been confirmed, but each day we are getting closer to the truth. Hope you are part of this exciting family and can join us in solving a true mystery.
John and Joan Eaton were from Radnorshire, Wales. They were Baptist. According to Jones's History of the Baptist in Radnorshire, the Eatons were members at Dolau Chapel, in the the parish of Nantmel. John Eaton was most likely the grandson of George and Ellen Hatfield Eaton; John b. 1645, George, b. 1650 and Sarah b. 1655 all fit into the time frame and area of the George Eaton family.
In Jones' History of the Baptist In Radnorshire, he speaks of "Mr. John Eaton and his little band of pilgrims who emigrated from Llanddewi to Pennsylvania in 1686 (?) had two sons George and Joseph." Our research indicates that John and Joan had three children: John, Jr. born in Wales (village unknown); Joseph, born Aug. 25, 1679 at Nantmel and George, born in 1686 either in Wales or in Pennsylvania. It would seem that all the Welsh Eatons had arrived in Philadelphia by 1689.
John Eaton's brother George was born in Wales about 1650. He was baptized in Radnorshire about 1670. He was married to a woman by the name of Jane. They had no children. He died in Dublin Township on 28 September 1706. He is buried in the Pennepack Baptist Church Cemetery. His widow, Jane, died in Dublin Township on Aug. 10, 1724. She is also buried in the Pennnepack Cemetery. John's sister, Sarah Eaton was born in Wales on 1 April 1655 and was baptized in Radnorshire. She married John Watts on Feb. 16, 1686/87. He was born in Leeds in England Nov. 3, 1661. There is a tradition that he descended from Sir John Watts, Lord Mayor of London.

As contributed recently by EFA member, Sandra Kardux @ skardux@gmail.com, "I have will information on Eatons of Chester, first of William of Over Whitley 1639, John and Elizabeth of the Pole 1629, John of Over Whitley 1640, Robert of Hatton and Daresbury 1646, and George of the Pole. I have yet to confirm their kin relation to one another but am sure they are related. Please take note of John of Over Whitley and wife Anne as their children may have connection to our John and Joan of Wales as the children may be the same George, John and Sarah that came to PA in 1683."
Maria Griegorieff (mariagrigorieff@gmail.com) reports: "I think it is good to reexamine all of my earlier assumptions. One product of this is that I can now prove that Edward, the Quaker, is a brother of John, George, and Sarah. I thought I had proved this earlier, but couldn't remember how. I have a hand transcribed abstract (published in a book at the New England Historic Genealogy Society) of the will of Sarah Harris, daughter of Edward, in which she makes bequests to the children of her COUSINS Joseph and George Eaton (sons of John). If the word "cousins" is in the will, and not added by the transcriber (her additions are in parenthesis and this isn't), then Edward, John and George are brothers.
Barabara, have you talked with any current Eaton family in Chester?

We have tried making contact in Chester, but so far have not received any information from any direct descendant which has proved helpful. We have also searched through records and wills and have not found our smoking gun as yet, but we will continue to search. We know so much more now than we did, so I am assuming that there are still tidbits to discover and am hopeful we will eventually prevail. Thanks for your interest and suggestion.
This is from a note found in George Eaton's bible referred to by Dr. Samuel Jones in a letter written in 1788 to Joshua Thomas. It seems that they left Wales Aug. 1, 1683 and arrived in Philadelphia Nov. 30, 1683. "John Eaton and wife Joan were of Dolan, Radnorshire, Wales; they came to Pennepack, Philadelphia Co. DE in 1683. John Eaton and his wife Joan moved to the Welsh Tract, Pancader Hundred, New Castle Co. DE in 1712 until their death. He and his wife Joan, are both buried in the Welsh Tract Baptist Church yard at Iron Hill, near Newark, DE."
George Eaton Rev. b: Aug 1686 Radnorshire, Wales d: July 1, 1764 Philadelphia, PA. George Eaton was a Baptist Minister and was in MD about 1750. He is mentioned in the will of his Uncle George Eaton, dated 14 Sept 1706, proved 16 Oct 1706: "George Eatton my kinsman, the son of John Eaton my brother, after my wife is decease, all my whole Estate both personal and real to him, His heirs, and Assigns, for Ever Except what is by my last will otherwise given and disposed of". The will of Jane Eaton, widow of George Eaton made Aug. 20, 1724, proven Oct 3, of the same year. "She makes bequest to Jane Stirk, daughter of Henry and Mary Stirk and to my kinsman George Eaton son of John and Jane."
John Eaton was in Rowan Co., N.C. by Jan 22, 1763 when he bought 360 acres on Dutchmans Creek from James Forbes. On June 5, 1773 he and his wife joined Dutchman Creek Baptist Church by baptism. His will dated Apr 6, 1775 mentions wife Elizabeth, sons Samuel and Daniel. On May 4, 1789 he deeded 150 acres in Rowan County to George Eaton.
